Setting Goals & Mental Health

I have dreams. I have goals. And Iโ€™m sick and tired of stopping myself from chasing these dreams and goals.

I wanted to talk about how I think that setting goals is a great thing but that I'm really not that big of a fan of it. Simply because putting together a list of goals I want to achieve puts me under a lot of pressure. It's a #mentalhealth thing.

HOWEVER, my ONE MAJOR goal for the end of 2019 is to become a full-time self employed virtual assistant / social media manager / photographer. Really just a variety of these things because they make me happy and I enjoy doing them.

I don't think it's a wild combination. Whatsoever. I do believe to dream big.

I used to limit my dreams thinking that why in the world would someone like me be able to reach these goals/dreams. Thinking that I don't have what it takes. Thinking "why would someone want to invest in me when I fail them?" Even though I KNOW I have what it takes and I KNOW I won't fail them.

Again, it's a #mentalhealth thing. And while I'm working on my mental health, the more I realize that it's all part of the #mindsetgame. Never have I thought that having the right mindset is the greatest power you can own!

So many times have I heard: it's all about your mindset

Not many times have I believed in it.

Up until now since my mind started to shift. I have dreams. I have goals. And I'm sick and tired of stopping myself from chasing these dreams and goals.

There's more to life than working a 9-5, being limited to 30 days off work per year. Stuck in a damn rat race. Stuck with doing the same thing day in and day out at the same damn desk. Having to say no to family/friend meetings that live out of town.

I'm going to get to my goal by the end of this year. I want to work on my own schedule, for myself. Go on travels whenever I please and see my family & friends more often. ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ PS: #happyfriday everyone & have a great weekend. What have you planned for this weekend?

My point of view: setting goals

Boho Nature by paperheartpolaroids (1).jpg
I donโ€™t think you need to welcome a whole new year in order to set goals

Let's talk about setting goals for a quick minute.

At the end of 2018 it seemed like everyone around me, including everyone I followed on all sorts of social media platforms made some goals for 2019.

Goals like

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ I want to work out more
๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ I want to eat and be healthier

etc etc.
It's mostly the usual goals. I'm pretty sure you can agree.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ ส™แดœแด› สœแด‡ส€แด‡'๊œฑ แดส แด˜แดษชษดแด› แด๊œฐ แด ษชแด‡แดก:

I don't think you need to welcome a whole new year in order to set goals. If you really have a goal than you should just go for it. You really don't need a whole new year for that. Because if you keep telling yourself

๐Ÿ”ฎ next year I will work on this and that
๐Ÿ”ฎ next year I will work on being a better person
๐Ÿ”ฎ next year I will go on a hiking trip

whatever it might me, you will probably not do it because by the time the new year comes around you already forgot you once said these things to yourself. So who are you trying to fool?

TODAY I will work on this and that. TODAY I will start working on being a better person. TODAY I will plan my hiking trip.

At the end of the day its all about your mindset. And that's the most important part. *mic drop*

More of my thoughts will follow soon. I feel like I have a lot to say and share.

You don't need Mondays to start over

Boho Nature by paperheartpolaroids (2).jpg
Always remember: you donโ€™t need Mondays to start over. You can start over at any given day!

I love trying out new things and lately I have been creative af.โ €

I took this photo in the beginning of January when I tested out my new camera. I'm really into these type of tones lately. I am actually quite surprised of myself.

So what inspired me when I looked at this picture really was just the feeling it gave me. When looking at this photo I think of storms, cold weather, rain, forests and someone who is wandering around lost in thoughts.โ €

Fun fact: This also always reminds me of an ancient time when dinosaurs where on this planet.โ €

PS: Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you had a great start into the new week.

Waving at strangers.

Chantal - owner of herprettybravesoul (2).jpg
Me, waving at my fans. Just kidding.Itโ€™s finally Friday!

Funny story about this photo: when I was on top of this platform I kept looking down to the ground since there was a cafรฉ and some people where enjoying some drinks when all of a sudden some random woman kept waving at me. So I decided to wave back. Probably even more so because she looked Filipino. While I was enjoying the view I kept looking at the woman every now and then and every time she would wave, while I waved back. Obviously.

End of story: she wasn't waving at me the whole time but instead she was waving at her son who was up on the platform as well and who stood close by the entire time. At least we all got some good laughs though.

Also, it's officially February. Can we all just take a moment on how quick January went by?!!

Do what is right, not what is easy.

Vintage Beach Life by paperheartpolarids.jpg
Do what is right, not what is easy nor what is popular.

I think the quote I mentioned couldnโ€™t be any closer to the truth. All my life I did what was expected I should do. Go to school, get a bachelors degree in a field where you can make lots of money and never complain when work gets tough.

Well, I went to university. But only for a short while. I decided to study tourism management. And while I was interested in that, deep inside I knew I only picked it because it meant Iโ€™d make a lot of money after my studies & because this was expected of me. Was I enjoying my studies? No. Thatโ€™s why I quit college. What I would have wanted to do instead was choosing a creative field. I even wanted to study photography nce. But due to the pressure I felt, I didnt. I never went after my dreams.

That is why this year will be different. This year I will do whatโ€™s right for me & what feels right to ME. I will go after MY dreams.

Because that is more vital to life than anything else. Living YOUR best life. Doing what YOU love doing the most. To me, it also means having to be brave at the same time & having to step out of my comfort zone. So my plan is to work on that!

Let me know what you think: would you rather stay in your comfort zone or are you working on stepping out of your comfort zone & how so?

Get to know me

Chantal - herprettybravesoul.jpg
Knowing a person is like music. What attracts us to them is their melody, and as we get to know who they are, we learn their lyrics.
  1. My name is Chantal. My dad chose my name because back than it was an uncommon name. My mom wanted to name me Jennifer and I'm glad it's not my name because I feel like I can't relate to the name. Also I think it's a typical Asian name. #nohate

  2. I live in Germany and I'm half German, half Filipino but when people ask me about my heritage I say I'm Filipino. #filipinopride

  3. I am 27 years old and I actually can't believe that because 30 is getting closer and closer haha

  4. I was born in November which makes me a Scorpio.

  5. I used to have a black labrador named Leeroy but we had to put him to sleep two years ago. He was 16 years old. My best friend and he was always there for me and made me feel understood.

  6. I love chocolate. My favorite are milk chocolate and peppermint chocolate.

  7. I have a bracelet with coordinates of a place in NYC that means a lot to me because when I was at that particular place I was enjoying the sunset by the water and that's when I realized I fell in love with NYC. By that time, I had already spent three weeks in NYC and didn't really understood why everyone loves NYC so much. Now I know and I would go back in a heartbeat.

Now it's your turn. Tell me one random fact about yourself and let's find out if we have something in common.

Creativity is my therapy

Creativity is my therapy. The outcome that no one can see is that itโ€™s relaxing, it calms me down but it also makes me proud and gives me purpose.

I really really love how creative I've been lately. It's a long lost hobby of mine that I'm currently reconnecting with again.

The outcome of my creativity is more than the final pieces I upload on here. The outcome that no one can see is that it's relaxing, it calms me down but it also makes me proud and gives me purpose. I feel like I'm also reconnecting with myself again and I can tell that it makes a difference in me.

I used to be so lost. Last year was tough to say the least. So I guess that's why it means even more to me than anyone who's reading this can imagine. Or maybe they can because they went through the same and can read along the lines.

I hope that whoever might be struggling can and will find their purpose again. โ €
What makes you feel better?

Who is behind herprettybravesoul?

Hi, I am Chantal the founder and the owner of herprettybravesoul.

I am so happy to meet you!

You are probably wondering what you will find here. So let me sum it up for you:

herprettybravesoul is my little fair share of the internet world where I will showcase my art through photography, social media designs and other good things. You can even benefit from it because I have a lot of freebies on my website! Additionally you can find a few personal blog posts here and there.

Besides that my mission is to create a happy place where creative minds and others with the same interests come together become genuine friends, hang out and have a good time together and Iโ€™d be thrilled to count you in!

Here are some facts about me

1. I love dogs..

2. Pizza, chocolate and ice cream..

3. Good music. That can be anything. Rap, Country, Rock, Soul, RnB. It just has to be good!โ€ฆ

4. The beach, ocean and anything related to water as it calms me down.

5. I spend 3 weeks in New York City and I have a bracelet with coordinates of a special place in NYC.

What I love (doing) the most:

Traveling, when women support women, a group of people where we lift each other up instead of knocking each other down, photography, being creative e.g. putting together moodboards - spending hours on lightroom editing beautiful pictures, kindness, spending time with my grandma.

Really I am a lot of things. A friend. A best friend. A partner in crime. A social media manager. A photographer. A designer. A creative individual. That type of girl who can spend hours and hours editing beautiful pictures and creating presets on adobe lightroom, while listening to episodes of modern family or singing along countless numbers of songs. I believe in supporting one another.

But I also know that I am more than that because I'm also funny, introvert, a good listener and a sucker for soul music. Who are you and what do you think describes you the best?

If you like and believe in the same things, hit me up. Iโ€™d love to chat with you and become friends with you! - xo Chantal
